ello everyone
I finaly got a tokay!
hes in a good sized exotera tanks seems to be happy so far!!
(he or she i have yet to check)
but last night i decided ok its time to see this evil bite and well it can be prety mean!!!
1st try got my middle finger prety good with just a snap.
2nd try (with cloth gloves) got my thum with an evil clamping bit through the glove got meLOL (will be getting leaher soon)
an after grazing my thum through the glove it locked on the glove so i ended up leveing it in there with it.
about 10 mins later i check if it let go yet an i se the glove on the bottom an tokay is in his hide again.(seems they lock on untill they feel safe again)
This is one scary thing about them i gota remember cause haveing one latch on to my bare hand would not be fun i bet!
But im willing to work with it for as much blood as it takes for such an awesome herp

I will be posting pics when i get a new batery charger(old one melted >.>

he/she is about 8 to 9 inches long at day of purchace. And seems very fat an helthy.(even tho was frome Petco. I think bad shops give them a bad rep not all petshops are nightmares like alot say)

But when i find out his/her sex i plan to find another 2 an try out breeding them. i have a 65 gallon ill be setting up for them soon. and look forward to haveing these wiper snappers for years to come such pretty thing they are. even if they come with the bite of a 20 pound snapping turtle!

only question i have is this.

How many hides would i need for them i hear so many thing its hard to know ? just yalls preferances would help wana see who does what an such
also do i even need hides if i have it well vegitated

tank setup currently:
exoterra mid sized
full to the brim with plastic plants (yes i washed an soaked prior)

zen fountain (useing this for humidity/waterdish an just looks kewl!

cypress mulch bedding.(hope that works cause same i use for my snakes)

under tank heat pad

lights soon to come (just for extra heat when i have my ac on)

any tips would be helpfull on my setup

Sounds laike you have the right idea on your set-up...they can be tricky to sex.

THe thing with wild caught Tokays they can take quite a time to acclimate to captivity. They generally come in thin and their parasite load can further hinder their "fattening" process!!!

Put a new male into a cage with an existing territorial adult male and you have CHARLES BRONSON AND DEATH WISH!!!!

They will and can bit the legs off of other Tokays and kill them quickly.

Contrary to what people think TOkays are SMART!!!!

Along with what he said Tokay's have bee known to break fingers on small children in their native homeland.

My biggest male years ago left a nice sized scar on the back of my hand that required stitches.
