Brown Anole or odd patterned Green?

saleenadam May 22, 2008 10:34 PM

Found this sitting on my backyard grill when I came home from work today and wondering if the Brown Anoles have now made their way into Katy, Texas or if this is an oddly colored Green Anole? I tried to pull out the piece of whatever that was hanging out of it's mouth and it let me know it's displeasure.

That is definitely NOT A. carolinensis. It resembles A. sagrei but there are many species that do. It is an invasive species for sure.....TC

Yes, brown anoles are a big invasive species. They are more aggresive, have shorter incubation periods, usually larger clutches, are less prone to intimidation from other anole species, and they will eat green anole babies. I'm not sure if that is a true brown anole, but it certainly looks like one that is irregularly patterned (usually have diamonds running down back), but it might be a subspecies X subspecies.
