They start to color up at about an inch and a half depending on their diet. I feed a lot of krill and shrimp as these naturally bring out red color. At two inches they look pretty good and by three inches they are really nice.
This one pictured is a two year old...also one of Eric's hatchlings.

yeah,i figured shrimp/krill had somethind to do with it.i mean,it works for flamingos..i use freeze-dried krill, and live grass shrimp that i catch locally, along with minnows(roughly chopped),tubifex blocks(some eat it,some don't),and reptimin sticks.i've noticed that shrimp perks up the red-eared sliders colors, too.oh,eric said that he'd have some hatchling scorpion muds next year, and i made sure that i'm on that list, too.

My turtles mostly don't care for the freeze dried tubifex worms. Frozen blood worms though are eagerly taken by hatchlings. But you should feed things like that in a separate container as they foul the water badly. So does frozen brine shrimp and frozen krill.

Wow those are some good looking turtles. Good luck with them.
