annaisagecko May 29, 2008 02:02 PM

are the backgrounds that come in the exo-terra tanks washable? and are the jungle vines that you can twist around washable to? they just look like to much scrubbing would mess them up so i wanted to make sure because i just got them and don't want to mess them up,

thank you for any advice!

sorry but i have yet more questions to ask.....

what is the best substrate to use that has a low risk of causing impaction or parasites?

i was thinking maybe just peat moss or eco-earth but ill be fine with just useing paper towels if i have to,

but i'd like to use something better looking if at all possible, but still easy to keep clean,

so it would help if some of you could tell me your likes and dis-likes about them, thank you!

yes they are washable, and you don't need to scrub them. just soak them in hot water with a small amount of bleach for about half an hour when you want to disinfect (you shouldn't have to do this often, usually rinsing with plain water is sufficient), rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly. let them sit in the sun for a couple hours if possible. you can also use a product called "healthy habitat" by "natural chemistry" to spray on areas you have cleaned. it's natural and non-toxic but breaks down food and waste residue.
