RES Help, Eggs on the way?

gamachii Jun 08, 2008 12:14 PM

Hello!

We are keeping two Red ear sliders. They were the same time when we bought them, at least a year ago, but now one is significantly bigger than the other.

The larger one, Female, we guess, escaped from the tank a little while ago. Luckily, our Bulldog found her, and she was returned.

The tank is all aquatic, with a small dock. Is it possible she had escaped to look for a place to lay eggs?

We are not sure of the age of the turtles, but the larger one is about five and half inches shell length.

Any help would be appreciated.

i may be mistaken about this,(and if i am,i'm sure that corrections will come soon enough),but all the breeding age females that i've ever seen were at least 8" or so.sliders are pretty good escape artists, however.i finally had to put a chicken-wire fence around my backyard pond to keep my y.b.s.s in the pond, they would just climb over any decorative border that i put around it.anyhow, 5 1/2" just seems too small for breeding.

She may or may not want to lay eggs, but regardless, I would try to find a way to add some land for them. My turts seem to love getting out on the sand or rocks to bask.
