SHL Update and photos

Our five "New Guys" are one year old! I've heard clutch, and litter, and I've even called them a herd, but after carefull observation of the social relationships of eight Phrynosoma hernandesi, I'm proposing a Pile of Horny Toads.

This is how they measure up: Ms Piggy 26.22g, Kermit 9.47g, Janice 24.22g, Cookie Monster 10.95g, Gladys 16.06g, Lolita 13.6g, Tinkerbell 15.24g, and that's little Jon on top of the pile at 7.4g! Jon is doing really well. All are looking forward to their second reptile show in San Diego, June 28-29.

The second photo is of Cookie Monster and Janice. It shows how attentive Cookie Monster has been. We're pretty sure Janice is pregnant (gravid). Last year, Kermit didn't have anything to do with Ms Piggy as soon as mating season ended. Cookie Monster knows something is going on. He's going to be a good Dad.

I'll say it again, that's a nice job with that thar herd ( or lounge ). I'm interested though in what your SVL is on the largest female. Mine is SVL 89.3mm, and weight stays between 38-40g

SVL is 7.4 cm. She's been this size for the last year. She's 3 yrs. old.

Wow, that's a 15mm difference. Not sure how old this girl is, but I figured her for being 3-5 yrs.

The previous female I had, was about the same size as yours, and gave birth to 12 babies. She came from high elevation in Taos. This current one came from NM also, but much lower elevation. Wonder if it's regional genetics, elevation, or another factor. There seems to be greater variation in SVL among mature hernandesi than most other species, and greater disparity between sizes of mature males and females.
