Injured SoftShell - Please Advise!

luckitri Jun 17, 2008 01:34 AM

I just acquired 2 softshells when trying to purchase an empty used aquarium. I know nothing about them. The seller put all the creatures in the turtle aquarium and his 11 inch plecostomus ate a huge hole in one of the turtles' backs. This turtle still eats and suns and swims but is more lethargic, fearful and stressed than the other. It has been a few days now and I am having difficulty keeping up with all this. Needless to say the plecostomus has found a new home.

I went to a couple of pet stores and they recommended finding a forum for advise on how to heal this turtle and keep him(?) from getting infection.

One store employee recommended the ReptiTurtleSulfaDip. In my experience with goldfish I have learnt that some of the Rx sold will kill the fish as well as the illness. (Just like with us homo sapiens!) If anybody has used this product successfully please advise.

TIA! (Thanks in advance!)

You should take that animal to a vet ASAP. Forum advice is not going to help you.
