"Bug Juice".....?

babysdaddy Jun 17, 2008 09:55 AM

I was gonna try the "Bug Juice" (as per Susan James on Adcham) on my Jackson's...as parenteral nutritional support while he's recovering from NHPD. Anyone have any thoughts on it? Anyone ever used it b4? The article says to "discard any unused portion after 48 hrs"....do u think it can be frozen in 1 cc portions?

Also wonder if it can used on other genus (i.e. Crotaphytus...just got a shipment of 1.2 in and they could use a little "beefing up".

NHPD?

Are you force feeding your chameleon?

babysdaddy Jun 17, 2008 08:26 PM

If necessary, I will. I'd rather avoid that, but his appetite is ALMOST nonexistent...I maight have to if this goes on much longer. Sometimes he'll take a roach....other times I have to force feed him the roach. Don't want him to start losing body mass.

Again...what is NHPD?

Oooops, sorry. Left out a letter(been exhausted all week). Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism....a form of MBD(metabolic bone disease).

That's what I thought you were meaning.

What are you doing for your chameleon to help him get over it?

babysdaddy Jun 19, 2008 12:32 AM

Nothing now....he passed away last night while I was at work. Think he died in his sleep...I hope. I'll do a necropsy on him tonite at work.

It was a respiratory infection. His lung tissue was full of mucous and bubbles. Took a sample and mounted it for microscopy....areas of gritty black material densely clustered ( assuming it's bacteria). Can't figure out how he got a resp. infect. If anything, the humidity was too low. Unless he aspirated some liquid from syringe feedings. I was giving him Pedialyte EOD for a while. Any idea what I did wrong?

Sorry to hear that you lost your chameleon.

Did it sit with its mouth open at all ner the end?
Its quite possible that it aspirated something into its lungs if you were syringe feeding it.
