Ahaetulla Nastua Problems!

AmandaTolleson Jun 21, 2008 11:00 AM

Ok, so I picked up 1.1 nasuta at a show two weekends ago. In apparent good health on the outside but where obviously adult WC. Took my chances for $20 each. I have had experience with lots of WC with no problems. Neither show any interest in eating mediterranean geckos. Still need to try anoles but it's only been two weeks. I treated them for mites with reptile relief and haven't seen any since. Problem is, the female died last night. Darn! What can I do to make sure the same doesn't happen with my male. And is there any chance the vendor will replace my girl? How should I go about asking?
This is my first negative experience with WC. Bound to happen someday...

These guys sometimes take time to adjust. My female prasina didn't eat for a month, 2 years later she is a monster. Definately go with anoles they are diurnal, the geckos typically will hide during the day when the snake is looking for them. Also, try leaving the room, to this day my vines don't like to eat if they see me watching. Hope this helps.

I'll echo Rob's comment about leaving the room or immediate area. For some reason Ahaetullas are shy. I was lucky to get some pix of my male feeding on an anole, but that was only by luck. Living in Central FL I leave the cages of my tropical herps outside in summer and just happened to come upon the dude as he made his first kill. I believe he & the F were W/C. I've had mine a little over a month and they do just fine on the local brown (NOT green) anoles I have to catch by hand... no mean feat for a guy that just turned 50-something. Good luck.
