My baby alligator snapper has fungus?

jxjaxj Jun 21, 2008 05:02 PM

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Recently I have been noticing increasing algae growth on the decorations and algae growth on my alligator snapper. Right now I just noticed a lot of fungus growing from the back area of the shell of the turtle. I am definitely sure it is fungus and not the shell peeling. Why do you think this is happening and what can I do to about this problem? Thanks a lot for everything!

What I did was to mix 2 teaspoons of salt in a qt of water and keep him in this for an hour or two and then take him out and let him completely dry off before putting him back in his tank. I would repeat it at least twice a day.

Thanks for the response! Did you do this to your snapper because it had fungus also? I am just worried because I have never heard of fungus growing on turtles before. It looks like a ball of brownish fur hanging on the shell. Will this effect my turtles health in the long term since its still just a baby? I do a 100% water change once a month and I am using a regular 75 watt household light bulb 12 hours a day just to provide the natural day/night cycle. Does any of these routines sound like it could be problems? Thanks again for all of your responses. I really appreciate it.
