Diamondback terrapin skin problem

eelnoob Jun 24, 2008 03:22 PM

Well I just got my two diamondback terrapins from a friend and they seem to be having a skin problem. Their skin is constantly shedding some white things that looks like dandruff. These were always kept in freshwater, I ordered them on here as CB babies a few years back.

Should I worry about these dandruff looking things?

So if it is more like clear thin layers of skin, which is what i am guessing by your discription, that is normal, diamonds like all reptiles shed their skin, and quite often, almost seemingly continuosly if they are rapidly growing
But, if you are seeing is actually whiteish to grayish fuzzy spots on the skin them that would quite possibly be fungus, even in fresh water I would recomend that you add 1 tablespoon of marine salt to every 10 gals of water when changing water, and would recomend that you change at least 25-50% water weekly depending on your filtration system. Just my humble oppinion.
