has anybody tried feeding bluegill fish, also known as crappie sometimes to your alligator snapper/s? any input would be appreciated thanks in advance.

i think that it depends on the size of the snapper.my last one wouldn't touch small,baby(less than 2 " total length) bluegills and other bream until she was about 6" or so.if you feed bream or bluegills,be careful of the sharp spines in the dorsal fins.i used to just snip them off with a small pair of scissors or fingernail clippers.my new baby likes the small bream cut into strips.so yeah,if you feed them live,cut off the dorsal fin,or cut them into strips.

I feed blue gills, and several other species of sunfish to my snapper all the time. I use a cast net to catch them and feed him some live and freeze the rest. Crappie would be good too, but that's a different species.

I agree with the above posts, but would add two things to be aware of when collecting fish:

1. Many states consider bluegill and crappie gamefish and have minimum lengths and/or creel limits, so be sure to obey these rules.

2. Be sure not to use fish from waters with human consumption advisories due to pollution; these fish may cause illness or death in your turtle.
