Giant/Jumbo Tokays?

Tarck452 Jun 29, 2008 01:22 PM

I went to the big show in San Diego today and one of the vendors was offering a freakishly large tokay; she had labeled it as a "jumbo tokay" or something to that effect.

I realize that tokays are already among the largest geckos, but this thing was unbelievable. It had the size and heft of a large adult bearded dragon or, put another way, it was the size of a large Calcedonia gecko but thick enough that I couldn't have wrapped my hand all the way around the body. It retained the typical blue/orange tokay coloration.

Does anyone have any information on these? I can't seem to find any information online, but the size/shape leads me to believe that this must be a separate species or subspecies and not just an exceptionally large individual. Any thoughts?

Everything above 35 cm TL or 18 cm SVL would be world record. But normal adult male tokays already do look big:

Thanks for the response. Is that a picture of one of your animals? Do you have any other pics that would give a better idea of its overall size?

Hi,

that is a male which hatched in 1999. Its not the longest I have but probably the heaviest. My longest tokay has a total length of 35 cm.
