I'm happy to report that the DHLs I took in to test on local ants have improved in vigor. I have met many HLs in the wild and I know how they feel to the hand--solid and strong. The captive DHLs were flaccid and hollow at first but after several months of more ants in their diet plus almost-daily visits to the patio for real sunshine they now feel like wild HLs again. If only there was some way they could go home again. No captive Utopia can ever match living wild and free. Alas.
