if the painted's of breeding age,who knows?i had a male spotted turtle doing the nasty with a female eastern painted for a couple hours, but the female was unfortunately killed by a dog that got in my yard 2 weeks later,so i have no way of knowing if the mating was successful.personally,i think that it all has to do with how frisky the male is.my spotted will breed the rocks in his cage, probably.hope this helps!

As of the publication of Turtles of the United States and Canada (1994), no hybrids between painted turtles and any other species had been reported, and I have not heard of any since. Painted turtles and sliders occur abundantly in the same habitats and have ample opportunity to hybridize, so the lack of known hybrids may indicate genetic incompatibility or reluctance to mate. If the latter, it is possible that they will mate in captivity when no conspecific mates are available.

In my opinion it is very unlikely that your painted turtle and slider will interbreed, but I won't say that it's impossible; stranger things have happened.

thanx for the info now i dont want to continue running with this subject but, what known interbreedings are you guys aware of.

The Pseudemys species (cooters and redbellies) are known to interbreed with one another. Probably the different Trachemys species can as well.

Are you seeking to create hybrids? If so, I suggest you reconsider. There is no need to create the confusion in the turtle trade that already exists in the snake trade; keep those bloodlines pure and everything simple.

If you want to produce some different animals from what everyone else has, why not try captive-breeding species that are just uncommon in the trade?
