ok, i just got my uvb light. how many hours does it need to be on? what if my turtle hides from it? i have no idea how to use these lights since none of my reptiles needs them. So any help will be appreciated. thank you.

I generally leave the UV on during daylight hours, and shut it off at night. I doubt the turtle will hide from it; he likely won't even know it's there.

he never comes out of his log. should i take the log out and leave him no hiding spot during the day?

No. Just make a UV basking area available; if he wants it he will use it. The stress of having no hide spot would be much worse than inadequate UV.
