What kind of frog/toad did i catch?

Ven0m Jul 20, 2008 03:21 PM

Well I was out in the backyard walking my yorkie and all of a sudden i see something jump in the grass near the porch. I looked down and it was a beautiful frog so i got a container and he jumped right in. What kind of frog is it and if it helps i live in the south. When i put grass and soil in his container he immediately buried him self in there.

You have a southern toad (Anaxyrus terrestris). If you want to keep him, he'll need loose moist material to burrow in (chopped coco fiber is ideal), a shallow water dish to soak in, and plenty of live invertebrates to eat. Care sheets for American or Fowler's toads will work just fine for this species as well.
