Dear readers, friends, etc. I am writing you all to pass news about my father, Bert Langerwerf. I sincerely hope that some of you know him from all his work with the Australian Water Dragons the past years. It is with pain in my hearth that I must inform you all that my father has been taken to the hospital last Friday. He has been fighting colon cancer for almost three years now. The cancer has spread thru his body and attacked his liver severely. The current prognosis is not good. The doctors have only given him a few days/weeks left to live, lets hope they are wrong. It is hard for me to write this. I just want you all to please keep him and us in your thoughts the coming days/weeks. Please feel free to sign our guestbook on our website with your support as well. I dont know when and if I can reply to emails. I just want to spend as much time as possible with my father and family at this time. Please keep us in your thoughts. Timo Langerwerf

Bert is coming home again tomorrow. He had taken too much organic, homeopathic, or whatever the hell they call it, meds. He came very close to dying last week due to that organic crap. He will be back on chemo next week, and things are looking better then last week.

Thanks for all the support and messages. Bert is home again. We are planning to sell the farm (see Agama webpage for details) within the next year or so. I counted all outside permanent cages today, and there are 437.

bert wow...

i purchased his book online a few days ago and started reading it yesterday.. i just dropped though the forum and spotted his name - i was hoping it was someone saying how good the book was but im shocked that he is unwell..

i wish him all the best and ill sign the book shortly.
i just wanted you/him to know that out of all the WD books i have found and read the 1st 5 pages had me hooked..
the others i have had to force myself to get though to the end..

he has such specific in depth knowledge that none of these other books i have even come close too, its a little out dated with some of the areas on breeders etc but all other areas i have learnt a hell of a lot...

i only with there where more writers out there with his passion and knowledge of WD's

im glad he is doing better, now slap a pen in his hand and get him to a pad immediately !! we need another book or 20

I think it would be nice if Bert got some postcards for his room. Postcards can be send to the following address:

Bert Langerwerf
10514 Chilton Road 73
Montevallo, AL 35115-9634

We will then take the postcards to his room at the hospital and stick them on the wall. He will like that very much. He thanks everybody for thinking about him and us.

The sooner the better, really. Time is of the essence, unfortunally.

Thanks very much,
Timo Langerwerf

i just had an email message from tomo explaining that, im really sorry if i upset anyone on here bringing back old memories, i didnt realise it was an old post.

after reading berts book it had such a profound effect on me, he was a brilliant writter, and his love for this species was emense, within the 1st few pages i knew that this book was a lot better than all the others i have read

the world has lost a great man, i only wish there where more writters like him.

Bert passed away today at 14:45 central time. He will be cremated tomorrow, Tuesday. There will be a memorial later in the year, but no date has been set yet. It will probably be many weeks or several months from now.

Sincerely,
Timo Langerwerf, Bert's son.

I'm very sorry to hear that Bert passed , I never got the chance to meet him face to face but I spoke with him on the phone a few time and thru email. He was always very helpful and you could hear how much he loved working with his animals. Bert will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prays are with you and your family at this difficult time.
