feeding times

bigbruva Jul 21, 2008 04:34 PM

ive read somewhere that iguanas should get fed once a day, a specific time everyday, and a meal they can eat in 10 minutes.
is this true?

also ive been reading about what they eat,
ive been feeding mine on :

grape vine leaves
green beans
red cabbage
turnip
carrot
apple

and some different vegetables and fruit some days

but in what ive read on this forum, no-where does it mention any of these vegetables (except green beans)
am i feeding him the wrong things?
ive had him about 7 months and he's looking healthy to me

I am always light with grapes. I know they can cause kidney issues in other animals (including humans) when eaten to often. Cabbage and carrot are both bad on the CA/PH levels.

What you want to find is food that is 2 calcium to 1 phosphorus. The diet I listed in a recent post is one I have been using for 13 years now and has worked quite well. It is the same to the one Jiffypop uses as well.

While it is the best diet for our home, it can be varied. But the most important thing is to watch those CA/PH levels in the foods.

My ig is under a year old and I feed him twice daily. He stands on his food dish and stares up at me when it's empty. I can't stand it!

The biggest thing to watch for is avoiding late night feedings. But there is no set rule as to how often you can feed. If the animal eats, it is obviously hungry so feed it!

Oops, true! I forgot to mention that I don't feed after 4pm.
