Flying gecko problem

saturniid Jul 21, 2008 08:35 PM

I just got a flying gecko two days ago and he already has some problem with his mouth. My guess is maybe a bacterial infection or just an injury from a prey item. He shed his skin yesterday and he had a little trouble getting it off his tail, but there weren't any problems at the head end. I took these pics this morning and he's not doing any better. He looks fine on the one side, and he acts healthy. I thought it was just a mouth injury, but you can see the skin is all swollen up around the bottom of his eye, too. Please help!

Well he died tonight. I tried cleaning the area with hydrogen peroxide, but he got really weak today and then just laid down and died. If anyone still wants to respond, please discuss what I should have done differently.

A vet trip probably would have been the best. Sorry for your loss.

theyre not hardy. theyre barely cb ever, if ever. theyre all fresh imports 95% of the time, and do horribly. the peroxide wasnt probally the best idea, but it most likely had something which wouldnt have been treatable unless you went to a reptile specialist. id reccomend just buying animals which you know where they came from in the future. i had one, and learned all of this the hard way as well. i am sorry for your loss, and do wish you better luck. it most likely wasnt your fault.
