New eggs . . . what next???

Critter1074 Jul 24, 2008 10:18 AM

I have had my cresties for a while and put them together several months ago. Just about a week to a week and a half ago I noticed them mating and when I went to clean them out I found 2 bright white eggs. I don't know how long they had been in there but it had to have been from a previous encounter. I removed them and made the "make-shife incubator" with a tupperware bowl and substrate (I was told to do this by leopard gecko breeders). I have candled them a little to see if any progress had been made in their growth and I do believe I'm starting to see those tiny veins. My eggs are quite dirty and I was wondering if I could gently wipe them off so as to see through them a little better. Also, what else could I do to ensure that they continue to develop and hatch? These are my first eggs and I really don't know what to do next! Any information would be greatly appreciated!

You shouldn't really need an incubator for Crested gecko eggs unless your house is really cold. anywhere from 70-80 is fine for these guys, just the cooler it is the longer they take to hatch (but that is sometimes considered better, more time to develop and absorb nutrients). I'm sure you could wipe them off, just mark the top and don't flip them. I usually don't candle my eggs, just to reduce the amount of holding them. The eggs take about 60 days to hatch, but at lower temps have taken up to over 90, so just be patient.

My only suggestion would be that would should have figured this all out before you put your geckos together. I also worry about their size, do you know how much they weigh?

They are both over a year old. I got them progably March of 07. My dalmation male was already an adult when I purchased him. My harly was a baby, but she has grown and is about the size of the male now. She seems to be doing well, they are both very active at night and eat regularly. So, I hope that I did all of that right. I didn't put them together until I knew the younger female would be big enough.
