Snapping turtle set up help.

tlink99 Jul 27, 2008 06:01 PM

Hello, I just inherited a very small baby snapping turtle. As of now I don't even have an extra tank to put him in. I would love advice on what type of set up I should have for this little guy. Would he be ok in a full aquarium If i gave him something he could climb up on so he would not have to keep swimming? Also does anyone know of any good sites or places to buy supplies for this turtle? I know I am going to need a badass filter. Any ideas on types of where to go to buy one? Thanks alot for the help.

Snappers like to be able to lay on the bottom and reach their head up to the surface to breathe. So you want the water depth only about 2 or 3 inches for a baby.

An aquarium will be fine for awhile, in a year or two it will need something bigger. I used one of those blue kiddie wadding pools. They are cheap and work really great!

Use a filter that is twice as much as you would use for fish.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy your new pal. I really liked my pet snapper!
