Egg-eating snake feeding problems

magija Aug 02, 2008 10:50 PM

I have an egg-eating snake (Dasypeltis). I recently purchased it from a herp. The herp told me the snake was eating button quail eggs, so i purchased a bunch of button quail eggs on eggbid.com. The only problem is that the snake doesn't even care about the eggs. It sleeps all day (which is normal) but also nighttime as well. I went to sleep at 3am once and it was still sleeping. When i try to introduce it to the eggs, it ignores them. I've had the snake close to 2 weeks. I really don't know whats going on. I originally thought the eggs were too big, but I don't see how i could've gotten it wrong, plus the herp told me otherwise. The eggs are like 4x or 5x the size of its head. any advice? why wont my snake eat?

I'm thinking no water in the cage and a small bowl with egg in it?......they can drink the egg fluids???

.....I never had them......people in here do keep them....watch for their posts...

Chances are those button quail eggs are too large, if they're 5 times the size of the head. I would recommend trying finch eggs instead.
Try http://www.zebrafinch.com/Research.html. This is run by a guy named Garrie, in Louisiana, and he ships boxes of finch eggs. I think they're primarily for research, but he's agreed to ship me a box - they should arrive tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed, because up until now I've been having to drive over 2 hours just to get enough eggs to keep my little egg eaters alive!
Good luck.

Garrie told me I would have to wait about a month for finch eggs. In the meantime, I am going to try to learn how to fead with a syringe. Does anyone know where I can figure how to do this?
