Mites in Fruit Fly culture?

upstatenypets Aug 04, 2008 04:36 PM

What do the mites in the cultures look like? Are they easily visible or almost microscopic? What color do they tend to be? What is something that I could use if a mite problem arises? (that won't kill the flies) Any info would be appreciated. Just trying to get facts straight before buying my first pair of Darts. (like to know what to look out for) Thanks!

The mites tend to be clear and very small.Probaly about the size of a period. (.). They have mite killers that work well.I put my cultures on paper towel that I mist once a week with mite killer and it seems to workout well.I'm not sure how exactly the mites harm the flies but the culture for me stopped reproducing.I suggest having 2 culures to prevent not having flies incase of a die off.Hope this helped.
