Crestie freaked?

blacoston Aug 05, 2008 03:07 AM

Hi, sooo when ever i reach to get my crestie out of her cage she completely.. flips!
She runs as fast as she can when ever i come within a cm or 2 then as I'm pulling her out she panics and jumps off my hand and runs really fast, but as soon as i get her out she's pretty much fine. She crawls all over my hands going moderately slow, she won't even jump off.
Although if I set her down on a table then go to pick her up again she'll bow her head and firmly press it against the table that shes lying on so i can't pick her up.

Any ideas as to why she's like this?
I Have always been very gentle with her.

Also shes about a week away from being a year old, and shes 3 and a half inches, head to butt, 6 inches when tail is included, is that size right? Because to me it seems to small

reptiles by nature arent truely handlable animals, it all depends on their tolerance towards it. you could have the "most agressive" species in the world, and have an amazingly handlable animal, but at the same time, you could have something thats supposed to do well with handling hate it. the only thing you can do is attempt to handle it more often, in hopes that it calms down. it is close to being the right size, only about an inch small, but thats fine because they can grow a little faster or slower, just be sure its nice and fat, and itll be ok

Mine used to be like this. I think from a crested gecko's viewpoint, a big thing coming at them from above (when you're reaching for it) is much more threatening than a warm surface to crawl on (when it's on your arm). I find it helps to try to get them out of the cage when they're sort of asleep, then let them wake up on your hand. I handle mine around 5:30-6:00PM, just before I turn of his light.
