Our 7month old yellow

YashShyam Aug 10, 2008 10:59 AM

Hi guys, we have a 7 month old yellow male. I'd like to know from the senior members- how do you tell the difference between male and female? We have him for a month now and he seems to be content in his enclosure but spends a lot of time in his cave. He also is very jittery wen being handled. I'd like to know if this is normal behaviour. He eats two live mouse pups a week, is this fine or should he b fed more frequently? Please advise. Thanks! Yash and Shyam

Hi........look for spuurs beside the vent, if they look like tiny raptor talons its a male, if it has tiny cones almost hidden in the scales its a female.......for sure. Anacondas have slow growth rates and need little food. an appropriate size meal every 2 weeks is plenty.........snakes in captivity are generally fed a lot more than they would ever get in the wild.

Thanks Mike! He also burrows into his wood chips and lies there for hours. Is this normal?
