pig blanket heaters

danbristow Aug 11, 2008 02:54 PM

if i had my tegus in a heated room to 80F would i be able to use a pig blanket as its main basking spot???just thinking as moving all my reps to a converted garage soon so would make it easier on the electric costs.if not i'll just keep with the basking spots.dan

I don't have experience using pig blanket heaters, but most lizard keepers stay away from belly heat. Reptile skin is not as sensitive on the underside to temp changes and a thermal burn could result before the tegu notices it is too hot. If it were me, I would stay with an overhead basking spot (and UV, of course!).
