A pioneer lost

PHNubila Aug 12, 2008 09:02 AM

I wanted to bring this post up to the top in case some might miss it.

"Bert passed away today at 14:45 central time. He will be cremated tomorrow, Tuesday. There will be a memorial later in the year, but no date has been set yet. It will probably be many weeks or several months from now.

Sincerely,
Timo Langerwerf, Bert's son."

Yesterday we lost a brilliant pioneer and icon in the herp community. Bert was one of a kind...intelligent, forward thinking yet simple, kind, and so generous when sharing his knowledge of reptiles. The few times that I had the good fortune to speak with him I left feeling like a friend. Many will deeply mourn his passing.

Bert. It was a Lifelong dream of mine to meet him. I did about 3 months ago or so and it was like I knew him forever.. I have tears in my eyes wondering why God needed him when he still had soo much to share with us here on earth. I cannot believe the world has lost this Amazing person. Not just a Agama breeder but a Trully Good person deap down inside with passion for his animals unlike anyone I have ever met.
You will be missed my friend and I can't understand why we have to say goodbye to you this early.

To the Family of Bert. I live right down the road from you guys. If you need ANYTHING. Let me know. I am here for you. I am Trully sorry for your loss. The Worlds Loss.

Now I know there are Lizards in Heaven
R.I.P. Bert. We will Miss you.

It is truly a sad day for everyone that knew Bert. He was the best and he will be missed.

A sad loss to herpetology. I was lucky enough to have met Bert on a couple of occasions, a great guy. My thoughts are with Hester and his family.
