Here are a couple pics of new hatchlings, showing the visual differences between these two locales. We also threw in a closer look of one of the granites hatching.

OMG, they are adorable! I can't wait to get mine! Sorry, can I say that?

Congratulations, they're beauties. My favorite is the top picture of the carrot tail.
How big are they?

ndokai Aug 20, 2008 07:49 AM

Thanks, I like the color of the baby cts.
As far as size, the Carrot tails are from 3.5 to 3.75 inches total length and from 5 to 7 grams.
The Granites are a bit bigger, from 3.75 - 4.25 inches total length, and from 7 to 9 grams. But then the granites are just a bigger type. The father of this clutch is a MONSTER. The mom is not a small chuck either.

Hi Nick & Austin,

Is the granite chuck a local subspecies of chuckwalla? What region/area does it come from?

thanks

Anna

Hi again Anna,
The granite chucks are a color variation from certain mountain ranges in Southern California. They are not considered a separate sub species.
