I Had this W.C. guy for about 7 years now, saved him from a bunch of shovel swinging construction workers who thought he was a coral snake,LOL. Lucky me! had him out for some sun and exercise.

Those consruction workers need to memorize this ditty:
Coral snakes vs King snakes:

Red touch black, poison lack
Red touch yellow, kill a fellow.

If you can get close enough, you can look at the eyes. Non-poisonous snakes have round pupils like we do, but poisonous ones have vertical slits like that most evil of all creatures, the cat.

Your wild caught fellow is one lucky snake that you came along and befriended him. Good on you!

That does not work for tropical species.

Like Bush looking into the eyes of Putin and pronouncing him a good guy? That does not work.

Venomous snakes are not evil. Neither are cats. Big cats and venomous snakes are of course dangerous animals, but they are not evil. They are just trying to survive. Besides, both cats and venomous snakes are beneficial to humans, because many of them eat those rats. Rats are not evil either, but they can destroy crops and transmit diseases that are fatal to humans.

Um, almost....
Rosy boas have vertical slit pupils too.

Its actually alot easier to identify venomous snakes if you're in CA... I believe they all have rattles.
