freerida69 Aug 28, 2008 02:10 PM

i need some help here..i have had two sets of banded gecko eggs in a incubator. Both times the eggs grew for the first 45 days and the eggs just sunk in a couple days before due and never hatched. The humididy and temp were the same throughout the whole period. Any ideas what is going wrong?

Make sure you have a male... infertile eggs will do that, but it doesn't usually take 45 days. Make sure you aren't turning the egg over when you move it from the laying area... mark the top with a sharpie before moving. Temperature fluctuations are the other main cause for trouble.

I know i have a male. I have two pairs. I have candle lit the eggs and know there was a lizard in it. IT just seems that they seem to die a few days before they are suppose to hatch. I do not flip the eggs over at all. I have bred leapord geckos in the past but the banded geckos are giving me problems. I even cut open a dead egg before and there was a dead baby gecko in it. Theyre just not hatching.

There are lots of reports of non-hatching eggs and deformed babies from mothers fed primarily on mealworms this summer. I would probably look at the mother's age/health/nutrition for a clue next.
