Mayor Boris Johnson yesterday suggested a great crested newt could be the mascot of our 2012 games — a dig at predecessor Ken Livingstone.
Boris sparked gales of laughter in Beijing when asked if London would have an official mascot.
He said: “I am aware of the need to produce some kind of furry creature, like a great-crested newt.”
Former Mayor Ken is famed for rearing the creatures.
