Feeding Hooknose and Black-heads

tecuancoatl Aug 31, 2008 04:02 PM

Just wondering if anyone here has experience keeping these species and if they got them feeding, and on what. I have a 7 inch western hook-nose, and a plains black-headed snake that's 9-10 inches long. I'm wondering if I can get them feeding on crickets or if I should skip trying that and just catch some spiders, perhaps even some small centipedes. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For anyone interested, I've managed to get the black-headed snake feeding on small centipedes. I had tried crickets and spiders unsuccessfully, but this seems to have done the trick, with the Tantilla at least. I'm going to try small scorpions with the hooknose, as none of the above items worked with that snake. I have also tried millipedes with both, But that failed. So hopefully the scorpions will get the hooknose eating. Otherwise I'll just release it where I found it before it gets too cold around here.

I've heard of others getting hooknoses to eat spiders.
