Albino toad

sjranch Sep 07, 2008 04:47 PM

Hi everyone, I am new at the posting thing but here it goes. My 7 yr old son came in the house 2 days ago and had an albino toad in his had he said it was going to be eatten if he did not pick it up. He loves his critters of all kinds. Now I have this toad,(have had alot of practice with all snakes toads and frogs, bugs what ever he brings in). If I let it go it will be eatten,I usually only let him keep his wild cought stuff for a few days to watch it then we let them go. Anyway he knows what will happen and he is really upset about it. Please someone give me some thoughts. If there is someplace that would care for it and display it( with experiance )I would be interested in talking to them. well guys and girls give me your thoughts. Be nice this is a little boys feeling. He loves all of gods critters and I think it is great, being a lover of them myself. Thank you

I do have pictures but do not know how to add them.

Your son sounds adorable
Lets see...for american toads you need: 15-20 gallon tank, 2-4 inches of loose dirt/organic substrate, a few inche of leaf litter, a small water dish or gradual slope to a water area, and a lid. You don't really need a light, but with live plants it helps a lot. I would use pothos or native plants. They eat crickets, for an adult the largest size is good, feed 2-4 times a week, 3-8 crickets each time depending on size and age of the toad.

If you send me pics via email I can give you an age estimate (be sure to include a standard, i.e. a ruler or a dollar bill) and tell you how you should be feeding roughly. My email is otis07_@hotmail.com if you want to send me pics.
