Mixing food

gregory_t Sep 10, 2008 06:23 PM

Hello all,

I've received some great advice on this board in regards to the types of food varieties to feed my baby Uro (10 weeks old).

Now, I have a question in related to mixing these foods.

Currently, everyday, I feed her a mix of endive, bok choy, collards, and escarole. Once and a while I throw in a dandelion bloom in the mix.

Is it okay to add a little bit of mango and lentils to that mix (again--every day)?

Is this the best way to provide her variety or is it better to feed her one kind of food each day (but vary it day-to-day)?

i don't feed fruit at all.
if you feed lentils (esp.soaked) everyday it might only want the lentils, and this seems to bloat them from what I have seen.
for my older animals i will just toss in some dry lentils right in the cage for them to forage (always available) and this has not caused me any problems.

Collard greens and bok choy aren't the best to use on a daily basis, but every other day or maybe every 3rd day would be better.

The endive and escarole are great daily foods, so are chickory and dandelion greens.

If you want to feed mango that is good for an occasional treat as well, but I may avoid lentils for now for a 10 week old Uro, but thats just my opinion. Others may agree/disagree with that.

I would stick to the basics every day, and just rotate a few others in the mix here and there.

Why wouldn't you recommend collards in a daily mix?
