My female veild chameleon is having her first felized clitch in a few weeks and I want to get everything ready. Pumpkin is 2 years and her last clutch was 29. I have not increased or decreased how much I feed her so I am expecting around that number.I have a good incubator and a few thermometers so I for sure know the temp.

My question is what type of material do you guys use to keep the eggs moist and protected?
I have found a few things but I just wanted to know what works for you.

Can you just find vermiculite at any store?

You should be able to get vermiculite at any gardening store.

I use the coarse variety as it seems to hold the moisture more evenly. I make it moist enough so that when you take a fist full of it you can only squeeze a drop or two of water out of it. I fill shoebox-sized containers about half full of it. I poke two very small holes in the lid of the container. I lay the eggs in dents that I have made with my thumb in the vermiculite in rows about 1" apart in all directions. I put the lid on and put the container somewhere where the temperature is 76F. They will take about 250 days to hatch at this temperature.

What is the best temperature?
From my research people all say different temperatures ranging from 80-88F with a temp drop, some people say 68-75F. 68-88 is a 20 degree difference, it seems like there would be problems with this much of a difference.

I just want them to be strong and healthy.
