Answer to Do Dumeril's eat each other

jrsnakes Sep 26, 2008 01:22 PM

Yes they will. Will moving to florida the glass to one of my cages shattered, so I was forced to put my 7ft female dumeri's in with my 6ft female ball python. The dumeril's killed the ball & then tried to swallow her. I knew this because when I got home from work 1/3 of the ball pythons body was lubed up with mucus.

That is very sad. But I wonder why your Durmeril didn't finish eatting your ball? I'm sorry but I am wondering if they really eat other snakes. I know king snakes eat other snakes so it wouldn't be out of the norm if Dumerils did. I hope you are doing alright. I know it had to be hard.

that just proves that dumerils will eat a ball python given the opportunity... have seen that a lot of times online.

Don't think she finished the bp because she was too big. Was bummed. She was the first snake I got. she was given to me when she was a baby, back in 98', and she was dog tame, never bit me. While renting a room in Costa Mesa, CA she escaped in the garage & was gone for about 7months. One day I returned home from work, went to the garage & there she was hovering over my rats. I grabbed her, put her back in the cage, where she stuck her head in the water bowl & drank for about 5min. Then I gave her a rat. I've never seen her nail a ran that hard before. Guess she was starving.

Too bad.

I hope your story helps others understand that dum's can be snake eaters too! During breeding season I am always so nervous about my male!

Why do people constantly insist upon housing multiple snakes together? The "oh, well my two snakes are great together" is not the norm and I don't understand why anyone would want to play the odds.
