Thanks for posting, those are some nice colors there. Glad to hear they seem to be abundant in your local.

i think that because of the super arid enviroment and the total lack of fire ants in the area there thriveing, tons of harvester type ants arround here also, one of the last strongholds i belive in the country, see 4-5 a day.

Yes, they are still quite abundant in west Texas. This dorsal pattern is indicative of examples from far west Texas. I'm in Wichita Falls and they can still be found west of a line from here, down south toward San Antonio and the valley. The farther west, the more there are. Lubbock, Abilene, Odessa, El Paso, Del Rio...these areas still have a lot of cornutum. It used to be this way east of IH35...but not anymore. Not for more than 30 years.

Where was this taken?

the picture was taken roughl 4.7 miles south east of the town of Wink Texas, on one of ym oil leases, there common out there, in fact i find them regularly all over my leases from just south of the new mexico border to inside the city limits of Kermit Texas....in fact inside of the city of Midland texas, on the street called Baumann, there is a sizeable population in the alley, not uncommon to see them all over peoples yards, and in the alleys of Midland and Odessa.

Yup, that's what I thought. I have a rescue that came from a city street in Odessa by way of OKC after they took her home. I have the block number and street, which I'm told is an empty lot in Odessa and planned on returning her. Was surprised that when I asked specifically where she came from, the lady gave me a street address in Odessa....

I would not return her to the location in odessa, the oil boom down here is causeing development that the rest of the world wouldnt belive, there are 3....exactly 3 dang houses for sale in the city that i live in, odessa inst much better, new buildings and houses going up like crazy wont be long before what you have there is a relic.

I haven't seen the site yet, but I take future development in account. If there is a relatively safe area within a reasonable home range area I try to keep it in that area.

Oil boom huh? Not to go to far off topic, but my brother drives a truck and fracs casing for Halliburton and all indications I hear are that this is short term political theater. Price of oil dropped below $100 last night. Demand is falling and if the current economic troubles continue, I don't see a boom...except maybe a very isolated and localized one.

With the bailout of $850,000,000,000 going to be voted on tonight or early tommarrow, oil will go back up, because the dollar will lose value...there is nothing to back it up at the moment, there just going to print more... dont thing we will ever see under $60/barrel again.

Maybe if it goes through this time, but I'm still against it. I know all about the "federal" reserve and how that paper press operates. It'll be worse for the country in the long run if the bailout passes. They have no constitutional authority to buy debt like that and put it on the public's tab.

Ha, I just had to comment on this again because it's funny. Here we are less than 2 months after this discussion, and oil is closing now in the high $40s!!! Bet ya didn't see that coming. I told you.
