Well, if you had this trio in a 20gal, it would almost be too large of an enclosure. They should have been quarantined separately in simple small enclosures. If you had a pair in a well planted 5 gal you probably would not be able to keep track of them. Also, trios dont always get along. I had two adult females kept together for a while, and then separated them (while they were getting along). I later reintroduced them to eachother with a male in a much larger enclosure that was well planted. I noticed one female was acting a little more dominant towards the other but didnt think anything of it because they used to get along. A couple days later, I found the lesser female dead. She was nutritionally healthy too. Also, with this species, there is no need to have a trio. In one breeding season, one adult female golddust can give you enough offspring to keep you busy for two years.

Hi -

You may want to try potted plants like pothos. Hardy, plenty of places to hide and they can be cleaned/repotted plenty of times.

If you keep the three together, I wouldn't be surprised if one winds up dead. Many species of day geckos are agressive to the same sex. Look for bite marks or missing skin.

If you want plants to survive, you've got to have some kind of substrate - either in a pot or the bottom of the tank. It's really your choice on how you want to do it. I always used mulch and put potted plants on top. Easier to clean and less constant disruption.

Good luck!
