Quail or chicks

johnst_nhb Oct 10, 2008 02:20 PM

Hey Everyone,

I just have a question. Does anyone have any experience offering quail or chicks to Solomon Island Tree Boas?

I don't have any particular reason for asking, just curious. I have seen other keepers vary their food offerings with other snakes and it got me wondering...

Thanks!

doubt itd be a good idea. they tend to get a taste for the exotic foods, and at least here, both of those food items are hard to find, and quite expensive. ive heard of chickens with large boas and pythons, but never with candoias.

Not a tree boa, but here is a paulsoni female eating a chick.

Chicks are cheap (cheaper than rodents) and readily available. I supplement many of my snakes' diet with avian prey with good results. However, I prefer a varied diet for most species so i wouldn't use birds as an exclusive diet, particularly for Candoia.
