bigbruva Oct 18, 2008 10:16 AM

ive got a female ig who is around 16 months, and i think she may be starting her first season but i dont know much about it, so i cant be sure.
she's not eating much and wont let me touch her alot.
from what ive read previously this is common when their in season.
do you think this is what it can be?

Thats a little early for first season, but it is entirely possible. This is also a time of year when temps fluctuate in homes with the cooling outside. Right now temps are hard to establish for a lot of keepers because it is cold in the house, but harder to keep the heat going because it isnt THAT cold! Check your temps.

If she is in season, you will notice a swelling in the belly and increased digging action. I attached a few articles for you at the link below. If she is exhibiting breeding season behaviors, be sure to increase her calcium until a few weeks after she lays her eggs.

im not sure if that is her exact age its just a rough guess, but im sure she cant be any younger than that.
ive also noticed in the last week that her arms are turning a brownish colour, not sure if this is just natural, but ive read that they turn orange when in season.
her stomach is definately swollen, and come to think of it i think she has been trying to dig alot recently.
ive just taken a pic, maybe this will be of some help ?
thanks for the links.

She looks a little lumpy to me, which is also a sign of having eggs. If you have a vet, get her in for a check. A good vet can let you know how far along the eggs are. Follow the directions at that link for a laying box.

Your Iguana is lovely! Is that Spike? I remember your post on July 19th about moving to Turkey and the legalities of taking your pet with you. How'd that work out? There are times I have been tempted to move abroad but knew I could never leave my lizards and parrot. Where did you find information on it, and how did you manage? I'm so happy you were successful. Thanks for any info you can share with the rest of us!

yeh thats spike! and thanks shes beautiful isnt she (:
yeh everything worked out fine, all i had to do was go to the vets for a check-up 14 days before moving, then go to some office for exotic animals in the city.. and get the papers printed out..
but when i got to the border of turkey they didnt even ask for the papers!..
so i had no problems at all (:

ive just looked back at my old post on july 19th.. hasnt she changed!! :O

MaureenCarpenter Oct 22, 2008 03:47 PM

She sure has! Good luck with her. I hope you can find a good vet if you need one. She is indeed a beauty!

Wow! That's incredible. No guff from the authorities. Practically unheard of...and good to know. Thanks for sharing!

bigbruva Oct 29, 2008 08:21 PM

yeh but i wouldnt count on that happening often. its only because we drove.. not flew.. and once we got there i had spike in her travel-case down by my feet. the man didnt check the van and never saw her, and i didnt want any trouble so i didnt tell him she was there.
lol

im still not sure if shes in breading season or not,
but she's still not eatin properly. normally if i give her a bowl of food she will eat the whole thing throughout the day, now she's barely touching it. she's eaten so little over the past couple of weeks im getting worried.. but she's not getting any skinnier =S she has lumps along her side but because i dont know what they're supposed to look like im getting paranoid its something else.
ive read that when they're in breading season, they poo alot more,
well she's hardly pooing at all, and when she does its quite runny. which makes me think somethings wrong.
she still looks very healthy and is still very active.
i checked the temps and they are very low. i have lighting in there and heat mats, what else can i do to raise the temps?

bigbruva Oct 30, 2008 09:49 AM

ok ive been really stupid, i noticed this morning that the heat mat has been switched off.
i didnt think to check this as i never turn it off.. she must have walked over the switch at some point and turned it off herself.
temps are back to normal now.
