Yearling Res With Swollen Eyes

colorfulcritters Oct 27, 2008 03:32 AM

Don't know why, but this year old res has swollen eyes. Any suggestions what to give it?

Sometimes it keeps its eyes open, eats well, seems okay. But then at times it closes its eyes for long lengths of times, albeit not for sleeping.

Don't know what to do or what's wrong.

It could be a few different things. You haven't added any
chemicals to the water have you? Could be starting of
a respiratory infection or possible a Vitamin A deficiency.

I would take it to an experienced vet because if their
eyes are swelling closed something is going on that needs
to be addressed.

Hope this helps

hypovitamosis A (low vitamin A) is a common cause of eye issues in RES. But it could be a number of other things as well. A good herp vet is essential at this point.

Yes, she has pneumonia or something or another. She wheezes terribly, can feel the congestion in her lungs from the back of her shell when I pick her up. All I can do for now is dry dock her.
