I need some help....

evercraig190 Oct 30, 2008 09:34 PM

I have a baby egyptian uro and now we have found out that we are having an actual baby(hopefully a boy)...the problem is that we have to turn my lizard room into a baby room and that means that the uro will need to go outside...we have a shed in the back yard and i am wondering if there is a way that i can make/build a cage with the necessary heating/cooling elements to keep him outside? i really want to keep the little guy and im willing to do whatever it takes..thanks...

Well, you definitely will have the space requirement covered for an egyptian
Only issues with housing outdoors, would be getting the temperatures consistent. You will probably have to invest some money into a rheostat to keep the temps where they need to be during the day and night. You can build the enclosure easily enough by using a formaldehyde free material (oak ply or some melamine) just research the materials before you buy it.

The major concern here of course is safety. How are you going to get power out to the shed? Running an extension cord from the house is definitely not the safest way to go, and it may be expensive to have an electrician run power out to the shed, as you may need to pass some kind of building code with that. It is a good idea, just getting it to work in practice may be a trick. If you pull it off definitely let us know and post a picture of a nice big shed enclosure

Good luck.
