housing opposite sex together

bk915 Nov 09, 2008 01:21 PM

Hello I am newer to owning Tokays and had a question about keeping multiples together. Is it acceptable to house 1.1 Tokays together, or is it better to have multiple females to one male like some other geckos?

Thanks, Brandon

I keep a pair together, and they get along well. The male was a known female killer too. I kept him solo for a while. When he started calling at night I added his girl. It worked out good for me. They hide together 95% of the time.

I had three that were raised together from a previous owner and they killed the third one. These two I have get along, I don't know much about them. They are alot healthier then they used to be with the first owner. I just give them unlimited food live crickets and superworms, occasional roaches... all the water they want, plus daily misting and warm temps year round. Plus plenty of hiding spots. They usually sit by each other...so it's probably ok. You have to watch them at first though....thats my greenhorn opinion.

In tokays as for most mebers of the species Gekko there is strong pair bonding on one sute and inter female aggression on the other sidfe.
Thus, the most recommendable constellation is 1,1. 1,2 or more sometimes works, somnetimes not. Chances are best, if females are sisters or mother and daughter. But still in most cases just one female will produce fertile eggs in such setups. Onl yin rare cases -i do have one- 2 or more females do mate with the same male.
