Lizard or amphibian?

These photos were posted on another forum I visit (not animal-related). The poster thought it was a lizard, but it looks like some kind of amphibian to me. It was found in a garage in the southern part of England, and it was "8 cm long and very docile".

amphibian some sort of salamander no idea what species u have there

Either Lissotriton vulgaris (most liuleky) or Lissotriton heveticus.
Thus ist a newt
