Uromastyx benti / yemenensis

Stee Nov 21, 2008 11:45 AM

Hi all,

I'm new here, so I'll first introduce myself. My name is Stefan and I'm from The Netherlands. My English isn't perfect, so if I type something unintelligible, just say so and I will try to phrase it otherwise. For, I think, 6 or 7 years now, I'm actively keeping lizards. I've got 1.1 Uromastyx geyri, 0.2 Laudakia stellio picea and 1.2 Oplurus cuvieri.

I joined this forum ofcourse to exchange information about reptiles, but mainly for a different reason. In Holland, there are no breeders of U. benti (or U. yemenensis, as the rainbow benti is recently called). Via this forum, I hope to come in contact with a breeder. I've used the search function and this resulted in a few hits on people that keep them. But I couldn't really figure out if they also breed them and if they are living in the US of UK. So, if you breed this species or know someone who does, please let me know??

If you have questions, just ask and I'll try to answer them!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Your English was perfect, so no worries.

Try Doug Dix at Deer Fern Farms: http://www.deerfernfarms.com/Uromastyx_Species.htm

He's a well respected breeder. That's where I got my Moroccan hatchling.

Thanks for the compliment!

About 2 years ago, I sent an e-mail to Doug Dix. He then told me, that none of his animals were shipped to Europe. Possibly, this has changed in the meantime. Does anybody know?

I know of a few people over in Europe that do have some breeding Uro's, but I don't think they have any benti. They do have Geyri, Nigrivintris, Mali and Ornata. I don't think they are selling any yet, as some of them are not of breeding size yet.

Thanks for the reply!

The 4 species you mention are available in The Netherlands also. As are occelata and aegyptica. But I'm specifically searching for benti / yemenensis...
