a bright red cyst growing on my frog!

rachaelwrites Dec 07, 2008 07:17 PM

hello, i am hoping someone can help me here. i wish i knew how to post photos on this but i dont, so im going to try and describe it. about two months ago i purchased wild caught starry night reed frogs (Heterixalus alboguttatus). today i noticed that one of them has a bright red cyst looking thing near its booty. the frog can still jump and everything, but it looks terrible. the cyst is probably about the size of a pea or smaller. can anyone give me insight on what is going on? thanks!

It looks like a prolapse in some of the shots. Can you tell for sure if it is coming out of the rectum? If so, then it is a prolapse. You can soak it in some warm sugar water to help the swelling go down, and if it does not go in by itself, you can very gently push it back into the frog with a q-tip. Place him in a sterile tank or bin with moist paper towels as the substrate until it is all healed up.
