JayDhubs Dec 11, 2008 10:08 AM

my uros were slowing down so I reduced photoperiod to 10 hours for 2 weeks then bumped it back to 12 and now they are all out again everyday all day. i didn't want them brumating this year, i couldn't stop them but i cut it real short. hee hee.:0)

I am curious- did you do this for your entertainment or are you suggesting that a longer semi-brumation period will somehow adversely impact the health of your reptiles?

Or perhaps you are suggesting that a two week seasonal change is sufficient for proper health? I kind of doubt that this is the case if you admit to having to ‘trick’ them.

Or maybe you disagree with some of the reptile medical experts that suggest reptiles benefit from seasonal variation and this variation is necessary for normal system development including things such as the reproduction and immune system?

No,no.no...
12 on 12 off until further notice. only a month early the most by the last few years behavior anyway. they usually wake up in January. November to January they brumate. I don't want them waking up when I am not around in January or sleeping longer is all I am trying to avoid or I would just let them brumate longer like usual.

i didn't want them brumating this year, but they started to anyway. so to wake them up early i had to reduce photoperiod then increase it back to 12hrs. otherwise if they don't wake up now they will be unsupervised in January if worming is needed. I normally do 10 hours winter 14 summer. I am putting them on 12on 12 off schedule for now. I won't be around much to be watching them cycle. omg...
