Bearded Dragon or Leachianus?

deardedbragon Dec 19, 2008 10:01 AM

I've owned reptiles before and i want to get one now that i have a steady job. I just cant choose between a beautiful morphed bearded dragon or an awesome velociraptor looking rhacodactylus leachianus. I own books on both animals and would be able to take proper care of them, i just dont know which one to choose. Those of you that have owned both, could be you please tell me the pros and cons or just what you plain prefer?

It depends on your level of experience and what you're looking for in a lizard.

In my opinion beardies are more friendly, easier to cater for and less inclined to get stressed compared to leachies which can be hard to handle if you get a particular grumpy one (or an adult which hasn't been handled much), leachies are also much easier stressed and a more delicate species to own in comparison to a beardie. I'd class leachies as more of a display lizard, whereas beardies are very handleable and interactive with people.

But like I said it depends on what you want out of the lizard - do you want something you can handle easily, or are you after a more challenging species to care for with less handling involved?

This is just my opinion - I have owned beardies for about 6 years and have never owned a leachie but know a number of people who have them and am going on what they've told me.

I think that since you know how to care for both speices that you really could choose anyone, i would personaly choose a lechi because of there interesting habits and lokks. but i am also a big fan of a nice bearded dragon. So i would pick a lechi
