fire belly toads are they loud?

fleck Dec 26, 2008 04:34 PM

Hello
Was looking at some fire belly toads for an enclosure I have in backyard patio shaded with little pool (Miami/Florida)

I wanted to know if males are louder than average green treefrog when they call . Dont want to bother neighbors their yard is like 50 feet away but not sure how loud these toads are.

Thanks

You should not keep fbt outside, they are from China and would probably die if you kept them outside. Just get a 10 gallon tank with a plant and a large water dish if you want to keep them.

Thanks I know someone in area who has kept them out for 3 years and they breed like rabbits.

They are in shade but outside .

He has never heard them call as they are a distance away from the house under a tree but since mine will be in patio wanted to know if loud.

I may not do it as your right they are from China

I strongly suggest not keeping these frogs outside. For three reasons mainly:

1. They are not outdoor frogs, and could very easily die if there was a storm or they could get eaten by birds.

2. There really is no reason to keep them outside, they are one of the easiest amphibs to keep and it would be rediculusly easy to set up a tank indoors for them.

3. By chance if they did actually live, they could excape and breed locally. This would be bad for more reasons than I feel like listing. Florida has probably seen this more than any other state with burmese pythons and iguanas...
